YOUR TRUSTED SOURCE FOR EVIDENCED-BASED MENTAL HEALTH NEEDS.
At The Social Black Belt, our mission is to be a trusted resource for social and emotional learning by teaching people to grow confident in themselves, seek to understand others, and work together to build a better society.
Licensed psychologist, author, and founder of the youth development program The Social Black Belt, Dr. Christopher Cortman runs a private practice in Sarasota County, Florida, where he treats people with emotional trauma, relationship issues, depression, and personality and anxiety disorders. Awarded the Reader’s Choice Award for Best Psychologist by the Venice Gondolier Sun for six consecutive years, Dr. Cortman uses his expertise to pursue projects aimed at raising public awareness about the importance of mental health. A respected public voice, he has appeared on numerous national television and radio shows and has spoken alongside the likes of Tipper Gore, Jane Pauley, and Patrick Kennedy. This is his fourth book about mental health.
Born in New Jersey and raised in Pennsylvania, Michael Keelen has lived in Sarasota, Florida, for over 20 years. “I am in awe of how much they have learned about their emotions and social interactions...As a teaching veteran of 18 years, I wish I were given these tools to teach my former students who struggled with how to handle their emotions."
At The Social Black Belt, our commitment to the mental health well-being of children, adolescents, and young adults is the driving force in everything we do. We also recognize that many schools and community organizations struggle to secure sufficient funding to cover both core curricular needs and equally important development programs like sports, clubs, and the arts.
We stand ready to do whatever is in our power to help your school or organization meet the mental health needs of your student and community population, both now and well into the future.
